Heerema Fabrication Group announced the award of the fabrication of the Greater Changhua Pre-Piling Template for Heerema Marine Contractors.
The pre-piling template is a tool that enables Heerema Marine Contractors to install the piles accurately. It consists of 3 pile sleeves connected by framing including hydraulically adjustable pile guides and mudmats. Heerema Vlissingen will fabricate the steel structure and assist with commissioning.
Heerema Marine Contractors has been assigned the transport and installation of 111 turbine foundations and the installation of two offshore substations for the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind projects in Taiwan. The offshore work at the Greater Changhua projects is scheduled to be finalized by end of 2021. The installation sequence is to install the foundation piles first and then the turbine foundation.
Fabrication starts in June 2020 and completion is scheduled for Q4 2020.
The Greater Changhua offshore wind projects are planned to be developed on four sites in the Taiwan Strait, from 35km to 60km off the coast of Changhua County, Taiwan.
Danish offshore wind developer Orsted has obtained site exclusivity on four offshore wind sites with a planned total generation capacity of 2.4GW.
Changhua-1 and 2a wind farms are scheduled for commissioning in 2022, while the FID on Changhua 2b and 4 wind farms is expected in 2023.
The four Greater Changhua wind projects are expected to comprise the biggest wind-power complex in Taiwan and power approximately 2.8 million households in the country, upon completion.
