GOM: RENAISSANCE OFFSHORE PLATFORM FIRE
A Renaissance Offshore oil production platform, in the Gulf of Mexico, about 80 miles from Grand Isle, Louisiana, erupted in flames early Thursday morning (January 6th). According to the US Coast Guard the blaze was extinguished after about four hours with no injuries to crew members and no pollution was reported. Four workers aboard the platform evacuated in a life raft and were rescued by the crew of the supply vessel Mary Wyatt Milano.
The fire began at around 2:30am local time and was finally quashed by four offshore supply vessels at about 6:15am. Renaissance Offshore has suspended oil production on it and a second platform it owns, up to 17 oil wells associated with the two platforms were shut in.
