HAKURYU-5 STARTS DRILLING FOR MEDCO IN NATUNA SEA
Japan’s offshore drilling contractor JDC (Japan Drilling Company) advised that its semi-submersible drilling rig Hakuryu-5 has started the drilling operation based on the contract with Medco E&P Natuna, subsidiary of Medco Energi, on December 13, 2019 at offshore Natuna, Indonesia.
Hakuryu-5 is a midwater semi-submersible built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries at Hiroshima Shipyard in 1977.
Medco is operator of Natuna Sea Block B (SNSBB).
According to WoodMacKenzie, the Block B oil production peaked in the mid-1990s, and development activity has since switched to focus on the block’s gas reserves. SNSBB currently supplies 75 mmcfd of gas to Singapore and 150 mmcfd of gas to Malaysia, plus 20,000 barrels per day of oil and condensate.
