HEEREMA WINS EKOFISK DECOMMISSIONING CONTRACT
Heerema Marine Contractors Nederland (HMC) and partner AF Gruppen have received notice that ConocoPhillips Skandinavia intend to enter into a contract with HMC for the removal and disposal of platforms connected to the Ekofisk field in the North Sea. The contract includes Engineering, Preparation, Removal & Disposal of four platforms with a total tonnage of approx. 36.000 tonnes. The platforms are to be removed and disposed from 2017 to 2022.
The Greater Ekofisk Area is located in the southern part of the North Sea, 300 kilometers southwest of Stavanger. In addition to the Ekofisk field the area consists of the producing fields Eldfisk and Embla, both of which are part of production license 018. All three fields are operated by ConocoPhillips on behalf of the license co-venturers. Ekofisk production license is located in block 2/4 on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The water depth in the area is between 70 and 80 meters. The total number of manned and unmanned installations that have been in operation in the Greater Ekofisk Area is close to 30. The oldest one is from 1973, the newest one started operation in 2015. Several of the installations are no longer in use and many have been removed and disposed. At the same time the owners have invested in re-development and the fields are prepared for the next 40 years.
ConocoPhillips Skandinavia is the operator for the Greater Ekofisk Area (35.11 % ownership). Other license owners are Total E&P Norge AS (39.90 %), Eni Norge AS (12.39 % ), Statoil Petroleum AS (7.60 %) and Petoro AS (5.00 %).
Ekofisk was Norway’s first producing field and is also one of the largest on the Norwegian continental shelf. The reservoir is Cretacious (chalk) with a 300 meter high oil column.
