PACIFIC KHAMSIN OFFSHORE MEXICO WITH PETRONAS IN 2021

Pacific Drilling has secured a contract for the drillship Pacific Khamsin with the Malaysian state company Petronas. The contract is for one firm well offshore Mexico with two priced option wells and two additional option wells at market price. Pacific Drilling disclosed a dayrate of $196,000 for the firm well which includes the lump-sum mobilization fee amortized over the firm contract period.
Pacific Khamsin completed its assignment to Total for Equinor in November 2020. The ultra-deepwater drillship drilled Equinor’s Monument exploration well in the central US Gulf of Mexico leading to an oil discovery (April 2020).
Pacific Khamsin is an upgraded Samsung 12,000 design dynamically-positioned Dual Gradient capable drillship, able to operate in moderate environments and water depths up to 3,657 m (12,000 ft) using 18¾” BOP and 21” OD marine drilling riser, adapted for single and dual gradient drilling.
Pacific Drilling took delivery of the vessel in September 2013 at Samsung’s Geoje shipyard in South Korea. Pacific Khamsin started drilling operations in December 2013 offshore Nigeria with Chevron at a dayrate of $650,000.
The drillship is currently at anchor off the coast of Louisiana near Port Fourchon.
