FOUR MISSING AFTER THE INSTALLATION JACKUP SHENG PING 001 CAPSIZES IN SOUTHEAST CHINA

Breaking News

On July 25, the wind turbine installation jackup Sheng Ping 001 capsized off the coast of Guangdong, a coastal province of southeast China, in a water depth of about 35 meters. The accident took place during the installation of one of the 64 wind turbines of the 400 MW Huizhou Gangkou offshore wind farm operated by China Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN). The lift boat began tilting at approximately 11am on July 25.
The Guangdong Maritime Search and Rescue Center was alerted shortly before noon that the Sheng Ping 001 owned by Tianjin Jincheng offshore engineering had capsized from its stern and crew members had gone overboard.
The Xinghua News Agency said that there were 67 people on board. 63 people were safely transferred, and four people were missing.
Sheng Ping 001, formerly known as the Teras Fortress 2, was built in 2014 at the Triyards facility located in Vung Tau, in southern Vietnam. The vessel operated as an offshore support lift boat until it was equipped for the installations of offshore wind farms and acquired by Virgo Shipping.
China General Nuclear Power Corp. then contracted the installation vessel to work on the first phase of the Huizhou Gangkou wind project. At the time of the accident, the Sheng Ping was installing a MySE6.25-180 turbine, one of the 64 units of the wind farm. The company planned to connect the 400MW wind farm to the grid in 2022.
