STENA EVOLUTION AWARDED FIVE-YEAR DRILLING CONTRACT IN THE US GULF OF MEXICO

Stena drilling advised that it has signed a new contract with Shell for the drillship Stena Evolution.
The operations for Stena Evolution in the United States Gulf of Mexico are due to commence in Q2 2024 for a primary term of 5 years, with an option to extend the contract upon completion of primary term.
Stena Evolution was ordered by Ocean Rig in 2014 and built by Samsung Heavy Industries. The 7th generation drillship was named Ocean Rig Crete. Ocean rig postponed its delivery in June 2018. Transocean acquired Ocean Rig in 2019 for $2.9 billion cancelling the orders for two newbuilds, Ocean Rig Santorini and Ocean Rig Crete.
In December 2021 Stena Drilling entered into a purchase agreement with Samsung to acquire the drillship. Saipem purchased the Ocean Rig Santorini in December 2022.
